Here is what happened before Jeffrey Epstein got convicted in 2019.

In early 2005, a 14-year old girl accused Epstein of sexually molesting her in his mansion. The teenager told an investigative journalist, Julie K. Brown of the Miami Herald, that he paid her to give him a massage.

The same year investigators spoke with at least 17 girls who accused him of similar crimes. Federal prosecutors started an investigation against Epstein. A report stated that Epstein lured girls into his mansion, saying they were to give him massages in exchange for money. Those massages soon turned sexual. Epstein asked the girls to take off their clothes. He masturbated and touched them. He also paid girls to have sex with one of his female assistants. The girls could make additional money if they brought their friends to his house.

Epstein was charged with sex trafficking.

In 2016, the police charged Epstein with unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Usually, those cases get prosecuted right away. Something unusual then happened: Epstein´s case was brought before a Grand Jury.

The Jury charged Epstein with only one account of prostitution.

The next year, the FBI began investigating and collected a thick file with charges against Epstein. Again Epstein got the upper hand when his lawyers negotiated with the District Attorney.

We have to look into rumors again. It is said that Epstein hired private investigators to dig up information to use against the investigators and the District Attorney. Claims go as far as talking about those private investigators searching through the trash of police officers.

In June 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty in two minor cases. The rest of the accusations got dropped. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail. He got out after 13.

In jail, he had the luxury of a private cell that looked more like an apartment than prison. He was also released during the day and mainly slept in prison. What he did during the hours he was not in prison nobody can account for. He did not get monitored.

After 13 months of a luxury prison sentence, Epstein was released but had to register as a sex offender. We know that this did not stop him.
